User Interface

The Qtopia user interface comprises the following major features:

Theming

Qtopia has a powerful theming engine, allowing much of the user interface to be customized and personalized. Appearance settings for theme, color scheme, fonts and background settings are used to customize features such as, titles, home screen, context bars and icons and other window decorations.

Internationalization

Qtopia supports internationalization of all applications. In some cases internationalization is simple, for example, making a US application accessible to Australian or British users may require little more than a few spelling corrections. But to make a US application usable by Japanese users, or a Korean application usable by German users, requires that the software operate not only in different languages, but use different input techniques, character encodings and presentation conventions.

Qtopia provides built-in support for all supported languages to make the internationalization process as painless as possible. The built-in font engine is capable of correctly rendering text that contains characters from a variety of different writing systems at the same time.

Input Methods

Qtopia provides two input channels to address the issue of text input , given the lack of both screen real-estate and convenient keyboards typical of mobile devices. The Phone Keys input method is intended for phones with the common 0-9, # and 0 buttons. The Full Screen Handwriting input method is intended primarily for touch screen devices, but can be used with any type of pointing device ice, including a mouse. These input methods are not mutually exclusive, and a device equipped with both phone keys and a pointing device can take advantage of either or both.
