Introduction Welcome to Qtopia.

The steps to making use of a Qtopia product include :

1. Determining which Qtopia product has the features you require. For further information about a commercial products contact info@trolltech.com.
2. Checking that both the host system and the target device fulfill Qtopia's prerequisites.
3. Downloading the packages required for the chosen Qtopia product.
4. Installing/extracting/customizing/building the package(s) for the chosen Qtopia product.
5. Running the binaries provided or built in step 4.

Qtopia Usage Choices

The following outlines the ways that Qtopia can be used:

• Qtopia Phone OEM kit : Customers with an Qtopia Phone OEM license using pre-built Qtopia Tools
• Qtopia Demo : Assessing Qtopia using a pre-built demonstration
• A device pre-installed with Qtopia: See Getting help with a device pre-installed with Qtopia
• QtopiaDesktop: See Getting help with a device pre-installed with Qtopia

Note: The effort required to install a Qtopia product depends on the number of source packages used. Significant time savings can be made by choosing an RPM package instead of building all binaries from source packages.

Determining the Package to Download

Down-loadable package contents

Each Qtopia product requires the installation of one or more packages.

The file name for a package can have one of the following file extensions:

• .rpm - RPM that contains pre-built binaries, documentation and may contain selected source files
• .tar.gz - tar ball containing source code,scripts and documentation
• .exe - executable for Windows(98 or later)
• .dmg - disk image files for Mac OS X.

Choosing an RPM to suit the host system

The file name for an RPM can have one of the following file extensions:

• suse80.i386.rpm - i386 compatible host systems running SuSE-8.0 or SuSE-8.1
• suse82.i386.rpm - i386 compatible host systems running SuSE-8.0 up to SuSE-9.3
• redhat9.i386.rpm - i386 compatible host systems running Redhat 9 .

Download Location for commercial packages related to Qtopia

An email will be sent from sales@trolltech.com once you have acquired a Commercial Qtopia license or been granted a Evaluation Qtopia license. The email from sales@trolltech.com will state:

• details such as your License ID and Customer ID
• the Download Location for the available Qtopia packages

Optional and Mandatory Qtopia packages

The following table outlines the relationship between Qtopia usage and the packages to download.

Packages are identified as follows:

• mandatory packages are marked with an X
• optional packages are marked with an O.

Once the required packages have been downloaded, goto the Build From Source instructions.
